Devils Club, locally harvested within the traditional territories of the Ts'msyen people of British Columbia. The plant is harvested between the last day of frost to the first day of frost. The plant provides us with a fully enclosed branch that is full of thorny spines on the outside, green layer under that, then the bark and cambium.
 
As Indigenous people we use everything of this species except for the spines, and berries. However, that's not to say that those parts of the plant are invaluable because bears live off of the berries and the thorny branches were also used for protection.
 
The layer of devils club that is most beneficial is scraped and cut into pieces for medicine. It offers over 43 remedies for different ailments ranging from sore throat, lowering blood sugar levels and much more. In this case, the devils club can be consumed to enhance overall health and well being. 
 
This package contains 9 grams of devils club. For tea, one should use 1 teaspoon in a cup of hot water and let steep for less than 5 minutes.
 
Use either a disposable tea bag, strainer or cheese cloth to remove devils club. If you would like, add more teaspoons to a gallon of water and let sit for a few hours. Remove devils club and drink room temperature.
